The Heroes of Little Springs

Firing his machine gun through the smoke, the pistol soldier covered themselves from the suffocating fumes. However unable to see anything, he just blindly fired, proving himself to be the first target. Immediately knocked out, the other soldier tried to retaliate once the commando was surely in their area, but such an attempt was futile. Hand to hand combat proved the commando to be the better soldier and the second opponent was out cold.

Now armed with two pistols, the three soldiers stationed outside of the main room heard the commotion, and readied themselves behind a makeshift fortification of furniture and sand bags. From where the source of sound and fighting had came from, they knelt and aimed their guns in that hall's direction.

With the men behind their fortification, a single small ball of some sort rolled down the hallway. Within seconds a minor explosion occurred. As the smoke cleared, the commando jumped over the furniture, continuing forward. He quickly fired at the officers stationed behind the barricade.

As the small, heavy, and metallic ball rolled to the barricade, it slowly bumped into the furniture. Staring down at this round ball, with a seam in the middle, the first solider suddenly realized what it was, and was quite alarmed.

Quickly backing away from the front of the defense, he was a little too slow, and the explosion threw him back. However, he was not seriously injured by the grenade, but wouldn't be fighting any tough hardened commandos any time soon.

The explosion also displaced some of the furniture and sandbags, and what wasn't moved, was quickly chipped and brutalized by the metallic shrapnel and fire. Suddenly the commando revealed himself, after penetrating the smokey area.

The two remaining guards, already on the guard, aimed at this man. Firing his machine gun wildly, the bullets sprayed everywhere, except onto the target. They penetrated walls, the floor, the ceiling, and shot holes through pipes, which blew out hissing steam.

With a marksman shot, his gun was dislodged from the bullet. Still attempting to fire, possibly unknowingly, the entire gun sparked wildly, leaving a useless chunk of metal, and a soldier off of his feet.

However there was one soldier left. Lunging his heavy rocket launcher onto his shoulder, he aimed and then fired the behemoth. One single missile flew forward, straightly at the commando, which would explode on impact.

The commando ducked upon seeing the single large missile. He then moved forward and hit the man in the throat. It was quick and strong, enough to potentially send a man on the ground due to lack of air.

The missile flew forward to the end of the hall, where it ultimately smashed into the wall, and exploded. Although the damage could not be seen through the flames, smoke, and dust, such ferocity could only had left an disastrous mark.

With quick speed and reflexes, the agile commando knocked out the missile launcher soldier, who was unable to do much, except be taken aback several steps. With the three guards stationed outside finished, there was no one protecting the door. Although it was locked, that would not prove a problem to this skillful man.

Still there were two soldiers stationed by the door side, taking heed of the gunfire and the uneasy silence. Fixing their guns, they clicked loudly, and they were ready for whatever this mysterious soldier was about to bring on them

"Don't let him through! You're the last defense. Kill them on sight! Use everything you have to!" The man in the white suit exclaimed, as their prepared liquids, which were boiling, bubbling, glowing, and swirling began to settle. Quickly this man began to mix the vials together.

The commando shot the door handle before kicking it open forcefully. The door hit the one soldier on one side of the door while the commando ducked and punched the other soldier in the gut. If the first soldier wasn't down due to the door, he shot at his leg.

Forcefully the door swung onto the soldier. Bringing their arms in the way, they were able to suppress the full brunt of the wooden board, but staggered backwards. The pistol shot, although fired, missed the off balanced solider.

Elsewhere the other soldier who was punched forcefully, dropped their gun in the process. Grabbing onto the commando, a struggled ensued, as he held onto his one arm, where his pistol was, and brought it upwards, so that it couldn't be used. He was able to knock the other pistol out of his hand, which slid across the floor.

Regaining himself from the door slam, the other soldier hurried towards his comrade, to put this commando down.

The commando knocked the soldier down that had him pinned by headbutting him hard. As the other soldier came towards him, the commando pulled the arm with the gun foreword and with a short nudge, dislocated the shoulder.

Immediately the two soldiers were taken out, one after the other. However they bought the man enough time to mix the liquid ingredients together. Shaking the mixture, a reaction occurred, and according to his expression of delight, despite the the dire situation, something was working in his favor.

Pouring it all into a tubed vial, he squeezed a cork into the hole. He was not much of a fighter at all, but he grabbed a pistol on the monitor, and aimed it at the commando, who was in his way.

Once the soldier's were down, the commando went to pick up his pistol and aim it at the man in the lab coat. However, as he did so, he saw that the man had a pistol also aimed at him.

"Put the gun down," the commando commanded.

"Ive worked far too long to be stopped now, when I'm so close!" The scientist exclaimed, "You'll have to pry this from my cold dead hands!" He further shouted, before firing several shots at the commando, however staying rigidly in place.

As the shots came towards him, the commando rolled to the side while at the same time firing at the scientist's leg.

With all his pistol rounds missing, the scientist was quickly shot in the leg, causing him severe pain. In his state he stumbled backwards, knocking over the beakers of left over liquids, which spilled over the monitors. Sparking wildly, a fire sprouted, before exploding and engulfing the man.

At this time, the fortress's alarm had now went off, alarming every soldier stationed within and outside. The vial the commando came to retrieve had rolled out of the man's hand, before he was caught in the explosion, slowly halting at the edge of the monitor. Soon the entire section would be caught in fire, as it was spreading.

Several soldiers began to storm in towards the room, in an attempt to stop this soldier. Armed with pistols, rifles, machines guns, and rocket launchers, they would arrive within the second. Exiting from out of the room would be close to impossible, however there was a window within the room. It was the only window, and it overlooked the outside, the edge of the cliff.

Without wasting anymore time, the commando ran towards the vial and grabbed it. Seeing the window and hearing the incoming brigade of soldiers, the commando climbed out of the window.

It was a bit drop and the commando kicked his legs as he went falling down. He pushed himself closer to the wall and stuck his knife in the side of it, lessening the force.

With the knife pierced into the wall and halting his descent fully into the crashing and brutal waves, the commando would soon notice his plane posted on the shoreline. It was only a short travelings distance and he needed to get there soon. Although the soldiers wouldn't be reaching him any time soon, he couldn't say the same for the plans and tanks they had just prepared.

With his method of escape in sight and his enemies tailing behind him, the commando ran as fast as he could towards his goal. He didn't falter in the slightest as he ran forward.

Rushing through the fenced barbwire fortress, soldiers and pilots began to leap into their tanks and planes. The engines whirled and hissed, puffing clouds of black smoke, as the vehicles took off. Slowly, the tanks took off first with a speedy beginning, as the planes weaved into place, on the airfield. Soon they would be in the air, and in a matter of minutes, gunning down the commando if he did not escape in time.

Reaching his destination, the commando hopped into his plane. Within a few minutes, he was hovering above the ground and taking off, leaving his enemies in the distance.

Slowly reading over the contents of a detailed paper and report, a shady figure pulled themselves away from the text. The paper was turning yellow, the ink of the text losing its shine and chipping. There were several black and white photographs, showing blurry antique pictures of the commando, the fortress, and several other recognizable parts.

However the top of the report, in thick, bold, and large print, read 'Operation Reichswehr' It was the painstaking research of Germany during WW1, however it was never to be. The war ended soon after and their work was lost forever, with the help of a few American soldier. It was safely hidden on American soil, where it would never again reach the hands of the Germans. 'This will change the future of the war in our favor, we will have the ultimate advantage.' Those were the last words the scientist left, ending his mark in this legacy.

After this shady character was finally finished reading and observing the entire document, they closed this confidential report. "Hm..." They pondered, rubbing their chin.

Near the heart of Little Springs was a series of various museums. Each museum held its own special interest whether it was the Spy Museum, Museum of Flight, Museum of Fine Arts, etc. In the middle of the large staircase leading up to the Museum of Natural History and Science, there was a bronze statue of a skeletal T. Rex. And it was here Quiver and the Lunar Knight were.

The museum had been closed for several hours now, all the lights shut down, with only the moonlight providing what little inadequate light it could. Slipping through the defense easily, not once spotted, Lunar Knight made it to where Quiver was awaiting his arrival.

He had gotten word of her 'urgent matter', although he wasn't sure what this was. He had hoped it was something actually important and not something trivial, such as a juvenile delinquent vandalizing a small piece of the museum. Finally he appeared in front of her, after penetrating through the shadows. "I hope you have important news." He stated, his tone stating irritation if it wasn't.

Quiver didn't say anything right away. Instead, she nodded towards the museum.

"I've heard rumors that some of the statues have been moving."

A little displeased at this information, that was so important to call him upon, Lunar Knight frowned. "Rumors? You have me going all out of my way for rumors?" He asked, now disappointed, although he didn't keep such a tone or behavior for too long.

He then inspected the museum of Quiver's choice. "And you have us checking out moving statues?" He asked rhetorically, before bringing his gaze downwards again. "Look, I've heard about you and your partner's one situation, I understand where you're trying to come from."

Quiver frowned.

"Which is exactly why we should check it out," Quiver pointed out. "Look, I don't know about you but if moving statues are going to be anywhere, it's in there."

In order to appease Quiver, Lunar Knight entered the section of the museum with the statues. He figured the sooner he could inspect these statues, which were just that, the sooner they could leave and be done with this.

The first statue he inspected, was a bronze figure of a Roman solider, decked with his common armor, and armed with a gladius. He searched it thoroughly, the details, the bumps, the cracks, with his tiny flashlight, which he had concealed in an armor compartment. "What do you expect to find?" He asked, pulling away from his studies.
