Nintendo 3DS
We talked about this here, but only very sparsely. Did you know that the price range had recently dropped to about $150-170? Of course it depends which stores you go to, most will be in the $170 range.
Anyway I was cleaning up my school assignments section and papers, which I store away in this little crappy box. Don't ask me how, but I found a BestBuy gift card in there. It had to be mine, but how it wound up there I have no idea.
Anyway it had about $60 some dollars on it and I used the rest of my birthday money to buy the 3DS. There's a Phantasy Star 3DS game coming out, so that sort of sealed the deal. I'm a sucker for that series.
The 3D effects are really interesting. It's not that cheesy effects you get at movie theaters, it's actually a lot better. Everything or most stuff in the games actually looks 3D like figures.
It comes with its own game, which is this card. It scans it from the bottom of the system and you have to keep it aligned to play. It's pretty neat on account that it works on all flat surfaces and partially reacts with the environment.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
So far I only have the card game, which is really amazing of how it works. And Starfox 3DS. I wasn't sure which game to get because the collection is so small right now, but there were demos at the store, so I tried them out.
The 3D effect in the vast space, was really awesome looking. I really liked how it gave it that vast space effect. It's just something you couldn't tackle correctly with previous games.

Right. Like I said, I want to get KH: Dream Drop Distance but I'm not sure if I'm just going to get a 3DS myself or if my sister ends up getting one I'll just borrow hers.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
For a second I thought you typed out wait for another price drop. I can tell you, being someone who's played and bought many games and systems, that they never drop at all until years into their production.
The 3DS is a rare example.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
no no, there won't be another price drop.
price drops usually occur a couple of years after the console has been out. the 3DS has a price drop because it wasn't selling well. and part of that is that they advertised the DS XL for the christmas season literally months before the 3DS came out. so their main target market (the kids) obviously weren't going to get another one right after. that and the 3DS was getting negative reviews by the news, saying it was damaging to the eyes. that and there are still not a lot of games out for it.
so yeah...

You can simply turn the 3D effect off. It's not rocket science. Not directed to you of course.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
yeah i know that now. but when watching the news, people weren't given that information. i didnt even know you could turn it off until my friend who bought it told me. thats just the way the media twists things :p

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Upon inspection of the system, I immediately figured it out. The media said the same thing about how bad the Wii was. It's a shame that a lot of people are so afraid of innovative ideas/tech.

right, the media in general tends to hate video games.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I forget who it is, but there was some media/politician who made it his lifetime goal to rag on videogames and that they were the root of all evil. Needless to say he finally lost his job a few years back.

We used to rag on him all the time at this one Sega forum I frequented back in 2006.

Super Mario 3D Land came out today. I know I'll probably be hooked onto that game, so I'm not buying it until college ends this semester :P

Re: Nintendo 3DS

im going to be far behind on video games for a while. i heard the new Zelda game for the Wii is badass. but i can't get it until i get the Wii again.
on the plus side i think im going to get the Xbox 360 anyway.

That game doesn't come out until the 20th of this month, so I wouldn't rely on badass by trailers.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I wouldn't trust too many reviews either yet. If it's getting into magazines or wherever, someone's paying for that advertisement, so they won't be badmouthing it too much.
Totally wait til the 20th and then some and check out some reviews on Amazon. Most reviews there aren't too biased, but you do get the occasional idiot.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
critic reviews usually aren't biased either. i mean, at least, they're not biased to where they put the thing in a good light because of their connections with the company. at least, it's not like that in the movie industry.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Games play and operate differently then how movies do. Movies just have plots and all that other stuff, which are either executed nicely or not so.
With games they have to take in the plot, controls, replay value, all of that. It either makes or breaks it. You might not care for replay, but you're like one out of a million who do.
And I like my games controls to be simple enough. Once things are overly complicated and I have to keep reorganizing the controls for whatever reason, it becomes more of a chore then a game.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
right but what does that have to do with reviewers being in cahoots with game companies?

Re: Nintendo 3DS
What? Which reviewers? You should mostly lean towards reviews by gamers, because that's who you are. You're not some news article write trying to keep their job or being paid some cash to advertise so and so's game.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I thought you were talking about gamer's reviews from the beginning. I'm saying I read gamer's reviews and that gamer's reviews probably aren't in cahoots with the companies that make the games....

Re: Nintendo 3DS
You said something about critic reviewers, which seem to be on a whole different level compared to your average gamer and person who reviews something.
