Re: Literature!!!
That would probably have to be at London or Europe mostly since I don't recall running into anything of the likes during the United States around that time.

Re: Literature!!!
Do you know if subjects such as nude child photography was common in United States during that time? I never ran into such a topic like that...I would of thought even back then there would be some kind of law about such a thing.
If it was so common place in London during that time then what are researchers trying to do?

Re: Literature!!!
@ Konata: the girl's name was Alice...do i need to explain further =p
@ Lee: only some historians argue that it was a popular trend in England. those are the ones that want to preserve Lewis Carroll's name I guess. i dont think there was such a thing going on in the US. but im just going by a handful of historian's arguments. some also argue that their age difference was not so much the problem, it was mostly because Lewis Carroll wasn't very wealthy and would not make a good suitor. there are so many stories of scandal regarding Lewis Carroll, it would be impossible to find the truth.

So anyway, I got pretty far in Sylvie and Bruno. I really like this story. It's strange like Alice.

Re: Literature!!!
Okay, my theory is that the next book is going to be rather dark. my main evidence is the very begining of Solembum's (The werecat's) prophecy to Eragon.
now this may be looking at it a bit pessimistically for Eragon, but this pretty much implies that before Eragon does this, the Varden and the Elves are screwed. and seeing as it starts with "When all seems lost" then this means that either the Varden/Elves are almost completely destroyed, Galbatorix ends up winning the war, or (to Eragon at least) Arya, once again, turns him down. When all seems lost, and your power is insufficient, go to the rock of Kuthian and speak your name to the vault of souls."

Re: Literature!!!
ive got no predictions. i dont even remember the book well enough to have theories in my head. other than Arya and Eragon will end up together even though Arya has turned Eragon down before. that's my only prediction. and it's not a very good one I know =p.

Re: Literature!!!
LOL. Oh, Eragon - he's so hopeless.
I want Nasuada and that other king (what was his name??) to get together. Or her and Murtagh, but I have a bad feeling he might die T_T
About your theory, zfish, Solembum says "when all seems lost"..... Maybe when Paolini wrote it he was thinking of a Riders-of-Rohan-Gandalf-and-Shadowfax "Look to the East" moment??
Ooh, it could also be that Eragon has to die first to enter the Vault of Souls or something. Like he can only enter there as a soul....?
I'll have to read the books again when I get a chance!

Re: Literature!!!
So I was killing time at Coles (bookstore) last friday after work and this book on their "This Year's Top Sellers" shelf caught my eye. It's called Halting State, written by one Charles Strass. This is what the jacket says:
I had to buy it -- it's supposed to be sci-fi (which I normally stay away from), but I'm trying to expand my reading variety, and it seems like there's a mix of fantasy (Dragons and Orcs! ) and sherlock holmes-esque mystery and hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy type humour. I've only read the prologue so far, but it's already interesting -- hopefully it'll prove to be a really good read
"In the year 2018, Sergeant Sue Smith of the Edinburgh constabulary is called in on a special case. A daring bank robbery has taken place at Hayek Associates, a dot-com start-up company that's just floated onto the London stock exchange. But this crime may be a bit beyond Smith's expertise.
"The prime suspects are a band of marauding orcs with a dragon in tow for fire support. The bank is located within the virtual reality land of Avalon Four, and the robbery was supposed to be impossible. When word gets out, Hayek Associates and all their virtual "economies" are going to crash hard.
"For Smith, the investigation seems pointless. But the deeper she digs, the bigger the case gets. There are powerful players -- both reall and pixallated -- who are watching her every move. Because these is far more at stake than just some game-head's fantasy financial security..."
