I have to say, though so far I think the book is a bit over-rated, this trailer is absolutely amazingly done.

I just read a wiki rundown about the Hunger games when I heard about it a while back. It's just another dystopia story, and those are plentiful.

Re: Randomness Core
I know, thats why this book is overrated. I mean, omg I feel like this premise could have been REALLY good and a really good commentary on reality television.
but i think one of the main problems the book has so far is i dont feel sorry for a majority of the characters that die. i only felt sorry for one and twenty two die.
really, there should have been WAY more character development on the tribunes. and i think part of the problem is because it's first person so as a reader you cant follow the other characters and know what they're doing. i think that's the book's biggest weakness. because if i actually felt sorry for these kids having to kill each other, this book could have been amazing. but i dont because they're all made out to be an Other so I dont care what happens to them. except one.

Re: Randomness Core
So it's sort of like Lord of the flies, where none of the characters have development, except for being a cookie cutter of said personality?

Re: Randomness Core
no, i think Lord of the Flies is better. we're with the Lord of the Flies kids more than we're with most of the Tribune kids.
like, the only character we follow because its first person is Katniss. so we know her really well. but since she's alone for a lot of the time, we only really get the personalities of the characters she interacts with. we have no idea how characters other than Katniss, Peeta, and Rue acted, behaved, lived before the Hunger Games. That's it. Everyone else is just given a portrait based on Katniss' observations. and even though she feels sorry for the deaths of some, as a reader I don't because I don't know who the hell these people are.
at least with Lord of the Flies, we got to know the characters a bit more. We got to see how they would act BEFORE they were stranded on the island and then during. we dont get that with this book. i mean, there's 24 kids that start in the games and we only really know 3 of them.
which is why i like the book but i also dont like it. because i feel like this book had so much potential to be like Lord of the Flies but also better. but instead, it kind of falls flat for me simply because i dont really care what happens to a majority of the characters. though, i will say i really do like Katniss' personality and i like how there's a strong female character as the protagonist.
but still, i got more emotion from the two minute trailer than ive been getting from this 300 page book.
this kind of became a rant but oh well.

Re: Randomness Core
Granted I haven't read the book since I was in seventh grade or something, I just remember the characters now really having too much detail. They were mostly stereotypes.

And they're supposed to depict the gangsters from the 1920s?
