Artist Site That Isn't DeviantArt

Yeah the title basically says it all. Do you know any sites that are more reputable than DeviantArt and that you would recommend to others?

There's just too much I don't like and disagree with the way deviant art works things, which is why my activity there is so sporadic at times.

First of all I hate the art theft there. I randomly logged in earlier this morning to find about three pieces that were on the front page and were blatant cases of art theft. Though not much of the community seemed to care.

They even praised the theft for how well they did, even after being told it was stolen. Kind of lame and depressing for what should be considered an art site. Now it's not though, because most of the members are just teenagers who don't care about art.

I take a lot of time on most of my art work, whatever it may be. So if I see that art theft gets praise and the front page for well over 24 hours, I know it's not the place for me or any hard working artist.

They even made some asinine rule, where the original creator must be on deviantart and want their work to be taken down, for action to be taken. If it is a known fact that it is stolen, there doesn't need to be anymore confirmation, action should be taken, or it's not an art site anymore.

Which is why I'm hoping to find some place else to upload my works, which is actually an artist site. I've noticed that the only things that get the front page are art theft, overexposed/underexposed myspace camshots, unprofessional kitten shots, and nude parts of the women. Which further leads to the fact that deviant art is overrun by raging hormonal teenage boys and girls.

Oh yeah that's another funny thing. Nude women are ok, but members get banned for nude men. Not that I'm saying I want either, because it's all mostly tasteless porn, but it's totally double standards.

there's one called myartspace or something like that. i dont know how good it is though, i just joined it to enter a scholarship opportunity XD.

Is that what you're using? Do you use it more frequently then deviantart? I just lost all faith in the place lol.

i dont use it at all. i use dA, it's the closest thing I have to a facebook account without actually having a facebook.

Oh damn...oh well. I was hoping to find a place online so I can show and get critiques for my work. It's nearly impossible to do that with devaint art, unless I take some pictures of kittens or nudity.

I've been looking into some artist sites, but no luck as of yet. About DeviantArt though, are you allowed to resubmit better versions of existing pieces.

I don't mean something that is completely different, it's the same piece. I just have an Epson scanner now and it's so much better then my Hp all in one printer. There are no missing pixels or crappy resolutions.

I know you can go to the art piece and then edit the deviation like with titles or commentary, but can you replace the original file? It shows up in there, but when I try to it just keeps loading forever. Have you tried this and had it work?

I really don't want to delete it and then resubmit it because some of my works already have comments, views, and whatnot that I'd rather not lose. And I'm not talking about crap comments, which DA is famous for, either.

yeah you can replace the original file. it just takes forever.

How long is forever? Because I've let it go for about ten minutes before and nothing happened.

oh not that long. if that happens, i just refresh the page and try it again.

You're talking about replacing images not submitting new artwork right? Cause no matter how many times I try it's not working.

I got it down to about 4 MB and it's a jpeg file, that's alright for DA right?

i dont know what the limit is but i am talking about replacing art.

That's too true. I just wish it would work when it's in my interest. I'm tired of taking some time out of my spare time and end up having nothing to show for it.

Oh yeah regarding art sites, there's a place called MagnaBullet. It's not just for anime, fan-art and original works, but also for different types like photography, sculptures, and ect.

I've looked into it and it seems to be a better community then DA regarding the anime art work. I've only just joined last night, so it's too early to tell, but uploading and resubmitting artwork is so damn easy.

as i always say, ill look into it. i cant really now cause i hit a road block with the documentary project T_T.

What happened? What kind of road block is it?

on sunday, i had exported the rough cut as a .avi because i needed to add like two things to it and then but it on a DVD (i dont know how to do DVDs on macs). i just went to open it and it didn't export right. so now, i have to do what i was going to do today as best i can and go into the school tomorrow before class and finish it.

Oh I hate when things like that happen. Well I hope everything else goes well.

yeah, thanks. i mean, it shouldnt take me too long. and if it doesnt render again, i can just tell the teacher before class (she gets at the school very early as well) that we're having a problem rendering it.
