Hawkins jumped from his spot. He hadn't even taken anything yet! But then he quickly realized the man was still asleep.

Hawkins looked down at the parts he had. What could he get that was worth the rest of the drink in his hand?

After Hawkins had calmed himself from the unexpected shouting and went back to searching through the bins, the shopkeeper groggily came out of his slumber. With a few moans and grunts, he rose his head from the slobbery table, before he sluggishly made his way to his only customer.

He dragged one foot before the other until he arrived by Hawkins side. He stood there for a few seconds absentmindedly, before grabbing the half full mug, and consumed the entire drink. With a refreshing gasp, he wiped his mouth, and took a seat on a nearby stool. Immediately afterwords, he fell right back to sleep.

"Well, if that isn't an invitation, I don't know what is," Hawkins thought. He took whatever parts he thought was worth the glass that had just been drunk and he took them fast. As quickly and as quietly as he could, he walked towards the exit of the shop.

"Pleasure doing business with you," Hawkins said before hustling out of the shop and down the street.

Elsewhere, Flint was seated on a long stretching bench, which was just a series of crude planks nailed together. Accompanying him were the fifty other contestants who had made it through the maze. While he wasn't the last one through, to date, he wasn't that far off.

There wasn't much else to do besides remain seated, which began to bore him. He fiddled with his hands, kicked his feet back and forth, and occasionally tugged at his slingshot. If it wasn't for the fact that the staff would disqualify him, if he left to do anything else, he would had already been long gone. But he didn't want to jeopardize his crews only chance of getting whatever the prize was.

It was money or a ship right? If it wasn't, he didn't know how the others would react if he got some useless trophy or some coupons to use at some equally useless store.

They waited and waited, but most of the other contestants weren't showing. Whether they got completely lost in the maze or just decided that the contest wasn't worth it anymore and quit was anyone's guess. The staff members were very confused however, as every other years contest brought a lot of participants to this event, and there were hundreds left after this part of the stage. But they only had about fifty to a hundred, if that.

-

Spotting Hawkins exiting from a very shady looking store, Anais approached him. "Any luck?" She asked, as she carted around a empty mug, and what appeared to be a very tiny screw. It was flat at the top of the head, with an indent in the middle, and the bottom was smooth with spiraling threads.

Hawkins displayed a hand filled with a few parts.

"Well, it's at least something," Hawkins remarked upon seeing their findings.

Anais inspected the bulk of different scrap gun parts in Hawkins hands. She was impressed he was able to obtain so much pieces with what little they had to offer. It took all of what was left in the mug for her to convince an ex-participant to even give her the tiniest screw she had ever seen.

"I guess you can get us out of a jam here or there." She remarked with a compliment. He wasn't completely useless and his alcoholism actually helped them out. "So which one of those is the cylinder stop or back-strap screw?"

Anais didn't want to ask, but she had to. She only hoped that he asked, whoever it was, for the right parts that were needed. "Please tell me one of those is at least a loading gate catch or trigger spring..."

Hawkins scoffed at the remark and started to pull aside what was what.

"Back-strap screw, loading gate catch, cylinder stop," Hawkins said as he pointed out each one. "They were all out of trigger springs and I'm not entirely sure this cylinder stop is any good." He sighed.

"So we're still missing some key ingredients here."

"Let's just hope we can get them to Flint, before it's too late." Anais remarked. Although Hawkins didn't convince her too much, he seemed to know more about guns then she did. All she could do is hope that his limited knowledge was enough.

-

As time went on, the chances of more people making it through the maze exit grew slim. Where the remaining participants had went was anyone's guess, especially the staff who were baffled and rubbing their heads at this situation.

Whatever was the case, Flint didn't seem to mind. That would mean there was less competition to screw him up next time. Even better was the fact that he didn't see those trouble making sharpshooters anywhere, if they could even be called that. More like pain in the asses, if you asked him. So he wasn't going to lose any sleep over this.

Eventually the maze gates were closed, marking the end of the second test. Anyone who was in the maze, now wouldn't be moving on to the next round. The staff even had personnel sweep through the maze, in search of missing or lost ex-participants, but they couldn't find anyone.

"Listen up people!" One of the higher-ups of the staff commanded loudly to all the participants sitting on the crude bench. He had an air of superiority about him, a thick matted beard, and a scar where his eye used to be.

A few of meeker contestants paled in his presence. "You are what is left and what will move on." He walked to and fro, in a single line, as if speaking with an army that was standing at present. "But...that is after we tally what remains of your score board."

Hawkins and Anais reached the arena just in time to see the scores being tallied.

"Guess we better wait till we see the scores," Hawkins remarked. He didn't even bother to go to their seats. At least Flint had made it through the round.

Once all of the scores were tallied, which was another long and grueling wait, the final results were displayed to all. Because of his dawdling and the fact that he was diverted by the fake pirate staff, Flint's score suffered. It wasn't as heavily as others, but it was still enough to land him in the middle of the board, amongst one hundred and fifty remaining participants.

Since results were rather lack luster during the maze for some, there was apparently rumor spreading about a unconfirmed and in between match to weed out the light weight. This gossip spread throughout the audience and crowd, as they awaited the final...final results.

The best of the best were going to be at the third and fourth challenges, especially well-spoken for celebrities of the island and members of the Marine. "I heard that Captain Gulliver is going to be watching this." One of the townspeople remarked, as they took their eyes off of the slow-moving challenge.

"Oh no way, so that means the Marine branch of 22 is going to be here!?"

Hawkins wasn't too thrilled to see Flint's score up on the board. But hey, at least he was still in the contest. So that was something.

The string of rumors eventually made its way to both Hawkins and Anais.

"Well, ****." And here, he found them in another predicament. Do they call it quits and leave while they still had the chance? Or, do they stick to the path of stupidity and risk getting caught by the Marines?

The name of the Marine's branch, that would be coming to watch the spectacle, unnerved Anais. She could feel chills run down her spin, as she shivered. "Well this island is a port to resupply us..." She remarked, using the word us to indicate Marines.

"But that's way on the other side...figures that we'd come when there's an event."

-

"Listen up maggots!" The distinguishable and high staff member shouted, "Your points have been tallied." A few of the participants observed their ranks, before bemoaning at their misfortune, or praising their success.

"Quite!" They shouted, in what appeared to be a tone befitting a leader of some sort. One who might be associated with some military. "Did I give you the right to speak!? Did I!?" He added, as loudly as he could, as he bore down onto one person he deemed unruly. His index finger pushed into the man's forehead, causing him to tremble.

As soon as the others were quiet, either out of fear or whatever reason, he continued. "As I was saying, the points don't mean anything. We will have a preliminary to weed out the scum in the lot. We don't need to waste the Marines time."

Hearing this news wasn't welcomed by any. "So make a line of two, we're cutting your pathetic lot down to half."

At first the crowd was confused, until the staff member began his outbursts and impatience again. Several members scrambled into either of the two lines, bumping and pushing into one another, until two single file lines were formed.

The task at hand was to be able to hit a target, on a buoy, out on the pier. There were two targets, one for each line. The first one to hit and make a bulls-eyes, would be moving on to the third challenge. There seemed to be some foul play of some sort, for a few of the participants involved, but besides this they still appeared to be moving on to the next round.

Flint wasn't sure what to make of this, especially since he was farther down in the line and couldn't see things as easily as the others in the front. However, those who called out about the lack of sportsmanship were promptly kicked out and the other side won by default.

When it came time for Flint's turn, he went up against a frail and trembling man. He could barely even hold his gun straight, let alone the trigger. It went without saying that Flint won his round easily. However, the fact that the man was so scared of him, confused him greatly.

He also wasn't sure where the man was taken away to, once the staff members forcefully escorted him somewhere.

"Okay then, listen," Hawkins said. "I'll give these parts to Flint when I have the chance. In the meantime, scour the area for left behind hats, glasses, whatever you can find. If we're going to stick around here, we need disguises."

OOC: I figured I'd wait until Anais reacts to see how Hawkins reacts to the last part of the post...in case for whatever reason Anais doesn't leave.

"They're not here yet." Anais remarked, as she scouted the waters beyond the sharpshooting stage, and around the village. There wasn't a ship, of any size, sailing the seagull. Nor were there any signs of Marines on the land, or in uniform.

There were plenty of guns to go around, but none were military issued. At least they weren't here yet. Word couldn't have traveled about their escape this fast, so why was Hawkins so worried?

"You don't have a bounty...do you?" Anais dared to ask, and even though she was asking Hawkins, she meant Flint as well.

"Well we probably have one now that we made that ruckus at the fort," Hawkins replied. "And knowing them, they probably added kidnapping to the list."

He grumbled at his last statement. Kidnapping a, what, twelve year old? Yeah, that was going to go great in re-creating a reputation.

"If you want to spread information regarding a new bounty, this is the perfect place to do it."

OOC: Random Pirate: I have a strange urge to pummel an old friend for some reason...

"I guess it wouldn't hurt to be safe..." Anais remarked lowly, although she still thought Hawkins was over analyzing the situation, with a hint of paranoia. Then again, after what happened at the fortress, he had reasons to be. After all, they did nothing wrong and were accused of nothing, but clearly would be punished with hastily slapped accusations. Just like everyone else who shipwrecked on their island.

"We're running low on resources though. What are we going to barter for clothes?" Two empty wooden mugs? Clearly once filled with potent, slimy, and smelly booze. Maybe someone would give the shirt off of their back for a free meal...

"And don't even suggest the gun pieces."
____

"For all of you who hit your targets, meet back in eighteen hundred hours!" The distinguishable staff official barked, before staring at the unfortunate lot with disappointment. "The rest of you, get out of my sight! You make me sick!"

It went without saying that such a instruction as this crushed the spirits of many ex-competitors, who had no choice but to take a walk of shame. Yet, there were those who've passed who had their own doubts after such a demoralizing lecture.

"1800 hours? What is this, a military camp?" One of the competitors asked dryly, as a majority of the group began to rise and disperse.

"We're not going to barter for nothing," Hawkins replied. "You're going to go around and find items people are dropping and we'll use that."

Hawkins looked around the arena.

"I'd check the seats first. People always forget things when they leave their seats."

Annoyed by Hawkins worries, and the fact that she was not being recruited to do something that she really didn't want to do, Anais sighed irritably. "Fine..." She bemoaned, as she slowly trudged and scuffed her shoes across the bleachers.

They weren't too far from the stands and seats, as it was. She immediately noticed that a lot of the stuff people were leaving behind was trash. There were empty cups, lids, straws, wrappers, half eaten food, and even spilled drinks and sticky residue left over. Disgusted at the laziness of some people and the filth festering in the sun, Anais had no plans to touch any of it.

She didn't care if they were out of money and most other resources, they were not going to drop so low as to eat leftovers. She only hoped Hawkins felt the same way. Or Flint for that matter, but at least he was still busy with the current challenge.

Then she suddenly stopped by a mother and her baby. "That was fun, wasn't it sweetie?" The mother asked with a baby voice, as she changed and discarded the used diaper beneath Anais.

At first repulsed, Anais couldn't help but to feel the urge to throw it at Hawkins face. Why wasn't he doing any of this any way? Did he actually think he was the captain of this crew? If it was anyone, it would be her.

...So why was she doing this in the first place?

OOC: I don't know what you had in mind for disguises, but it would probably be best for you just to do whatever it was you intended.

"Make sure to meet back here!" Hawkins called after Anais as she went about her task. Now, the next thing to do was to get Flint who was just about to finish with his challenge.

He walked as close as possible without interfering with the challenge as it continued. Mostly so that Flint would hopefully see him and also so that when the challenge was over, he could grab Flint easily. The last thing he wanted was for himself and Flint to wander off trying to find each other and waste time.

Once the contestants were dismissed, Hawkins grabbed Flint by the collar as Flint walked in the opposite direction.

"Here's what we got so far," Hawkins said as he showed Flint the pieces he had found.

Sneakily slipping through the bleachers and stands, Anais inspected each spot. There were empty seats where the audience was clearing. Other fans remained seat, sometimes standing up to cheer or boo at the varying levels of success.

It was very packed, but this didn't help with matters of finding lost clothing. She however noticed that two different people had removed part of their upper clothing. They were still dressed, but whether they were removing layers because they were getting clammy or some other reason, she didn't bother to question.

Instead she quickly swiped a parka and long yellow fisherman coat from the unsuspecting audience.

-

Amidst the thick crowd, a random participant stared confusedly and worryingly at Hawkins. "Who are you and why are you talking to me?"

"Oh hey Hawkins!" Flint exclaimed, appearing from his back side. "Did you see? I'm moving on to the next challenge!" He couldn't help but to boast his success, as it had been going through his mind the entire time.

"Oh who's your friend? Ah neat! You got the gun parts!"

Amongst the crowd where Anais was searching for loose items, was a clump of some material. It was difficult to make out from a distance but if examined more closely, the finder would discover a hat. The hat was worn out, with holes and tears all over most likely due to the guests constant trampling over it.

There was also a pair of glasses with cracked lenses, a scarf, a pipe, and a toupee scattered about.

___

Before Hawkins could say anything to the man, Flint was directly behind him.

"What? No! It's a mistake," Hawkins exclaimed and he gently pushed the confused man away. The man continued on but still appeared slightly confused. "Yeah, I got 'em but not all of them."

As Hawkins spoke, he began to lead Flint towards where they were set to meet Anais.

Anais found a few other props along with the clothing she 'picked up'. Amongst these was a hat, a scarf, some glasses, and a pipe. There was also a toupee, but the mere thought of picking up someone's discarded, greasy, and flaky head piece made her squeamish.

But Hawkins did say anything. So she wrapped it inside the scarf. If he was making her pick through garbage, he would be wearing the roughest pieces. Eventually she decided she had scrounged through enough floor items. She had to keep some of her dignity, even if parts of her crew weren't.

-

"That's great!" Flint exclaimed, as he grabbed the gun pieces. He happily inspected each piece, but there was a small problem. He forgot to tell them exact models to pick through. You see, just like any old screw won't fit into wall, the same applied to firearms.

He dug through the pieces in his opened palm to try to identify each piece, while attempting to maintain a poker face. He was failing, however. From the parts they had acquired alone, he spotted pieces for a pistol, revolver, and rifle without a thorough examination.

"So...uh." Flint uttered, breaking away from the silence and any subject that may have been brought up about the pieces. "TheNextChallengeIsn'tUntilLater,ISureAmHungry!"

"Oh no you don't!" Hawkins exclaimed as he grabbed Flint's collar. He would have no talk of food (despite the fact he possessed free meal tickets) until this mess was settled. "No one's getting food until your gun's taken care of."

Hawkins walked at a faster pace as he aimed for the meeting spot. They were almost there now even although he did not see Anais just yet.

"What mess?" Flint remarked, as quickly as he could, after Hawkins started to direct him to a certain location. Wherever this was or why they were going there, he didn't know. "I didn't say anything about a mess!"

After finally spotting a familiar scruffy beard, Anais was glad to finally relinquish these hand-me-downs. In a sense, they were. They were down on the floor, where a hand could reach them. She already picked who was wearing what.

"They you are." She stated in a tired tone, before throwing in "Here." Almost immediately a tattered hat, toupee, scarf, glasses, and a pipe smacked into Hawkins face. They were all wrapped in the two pieces of cloth, so as to not fly about the place as she did so.

Suddenly a parka covered Flint, as it dropped from above, with her holding the yellowish fisherman jacket. If Hawkins was going to make her dig through people's filthy garbage, he was going to wear the roughest and dirtiest of it all.

"I didn't say anything about a mess," Hawkins replied. "What did you do Flint?"

Before he could get an answer out of Flint, Anais had arrived and proceeded to throw Hawkins' new costume almost in his face. He grabbed it and placed it on as Anais threw on her own disguise and Flint's.

"Well now that we're all here why don't you share with the class what the problem is?" Hawkins asked Flint as he crossed his arms. He stared hard at Flint which was difficult considering the glasses he was currently wearing were very strong causing everything to look disproportionate.
