Re: Character Archetypes
after looking it over, id say Toph might be the Hunter/Strongman.
"The senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch are directed by the sixth sense, intuition, thus resulting in perfect Harmony"
Sounds like Toph to me.

Re: Character Archetypes
But that indicates that Toph has perfect harmony in more then one way, which she doesn't. Sounds like it could be a mixture for Iroh in there to.

Re: Character Archetypes
The sixth sense does sound like her, but the way you described it or at least copied from wherever you found it, seems like the character in place has found enlightenment of some form.

Re: Character Archetypes
yeah i know what you mean. maybe Harmony just means Harmony of the senses and not necessarily enlightenment. because when you think of the word 'hunter' it doesn't really imply enlightenment.

Re: Character Archetypes
It sort of does in a way. When I think about the kind of hunter they're referring to, I think of someone who has left all kinds of worldly and materialistic attachments. They're out in the wilderness alone after all. In a way it's not too different from the Air Nomads ways of teaching.

Re: Character Archetypes
Maybe the best thing we can have for her is half of the Hunter. But I still say it's probably less about their skill set and more about them. She is rebellious, so what types are close to that?

Re: Character Archetypes
Well that list could be inaccurate. I know there's one for Wild Child, so that could be her. Or the best one as of now.

Re: Character Archetypes
They went by two names, it was WildChild and SpunkyChild. They sort of worked for Toph but at the same time mainly reminded me of Ai and in which case Ai is the total opposite of Toph.

Re: Character Archetypes
well, if you use the archetype differently depending on the theme, you could end up with two different characters.

Re: Character Archetypes
I suppose that's true, and in which case it could be used for Toph. I think I found one of those titles from the link I gave you. It explained it in more detail and it closely seemed similar to Ai though and less of Toph's character.

Re: Character Archetypes
I didnt see the Wild Child or Spunky Child on that list, just the Child.
and there is no way in hell Ai is the Child or Toph for that matter.

Re: Character Archetypes
I just watched some Avatar today, decided to watch a few episodes from my boxset after work. Haven't watched Avatar in ages, was nice to see the great animation again.Katara is definitely the Mother Goddess....i mean, we've talked endlessly about her and how she's a borderline Mary Sue and all that.
So I don't know if borderline is what I would use. The episode I watched, the Siege of the North Part 1 and 2, where Katara and Zuko fight, it was so mismatched.
I'm talking about when they first started fighting. Katara was all over the place, especailly with her bending and Zuko was just throwing out tiny baby fire balls, not changing in form or size at all. I know the creators said they liked her the most, but come on. That was just too one sided to even be interesting.
Seriously Zuko was the borderline villain, so you'd think they'd make it more interesting and have the villain have the advantage and not the good guys.

Re: Character Archetypes
either way, she's the mother goddess.
and, actually, i find that a lot of the 'mary sue' characters are the mother goddess archetypes. i mean, ive seen Gwen from Torchwood get backlashed for being 'mary sue-ish' and she's the goddess in that show too.

Re: Character Archetypes
Either way I don't enjoy characters like them because they're often poorly done. Imagine the goddess without the other characters to support them, they would probably be way to bland.

Re: Character Archetypes
completely disagree with Gwen though. Gwen is a total badass. just saying :p
the only shows that are sticking in my head right now in terms of goddess are Avatar and Torchwood. so i cant really say if i agree or disagree.
