Video Games Empty Video Games

Post  Loyal Subject Sun Apr 10, 2011 10:54 pm

I figured since we've talked a lot about them, they should have their own thread :)

and i also have a question...

okay, so basically i have two people that i know (one is a friend and one isn't so much) that are playing this video game. however, they're kind of at war at the moment because one friend likes one character and the other person likes another. so ive been trying to look up information on this game without having to watch the cutscenes...so i can form my own conclusion about these two characters. and i dont want to ask either of them to tell me about it because they're both biased. but i still want to know what the deal is.

the game is called Dragon Age II. has anyone played this game and if so, what the heck is this game about? what i really want to know is what's the deal with Fenris and Anders because those are the two characters that have started this war between these people i know. i want unbiased biographies of both of them if that's possible based on the plot alone...the other difficult thing is the characters can act differently based on the choices you make...yeah.

this is what ive gotten so far out of it:

Fenris: he's apparently an elf...thing...i guess and he was once a slave. he seems nice in some of the vids ive seen on youtube but in others he's an ass.

Anders: before my friend even told me who this guy was, i listened to an AU conversation characters were having and I ended up liking this guy. what i got from the conversation i heard is he's kind of a smart ass. i know he's a mage and from my understanding, he somehow betrays someone...or something...he also has someone else's soul inside him and his hatred for the way mages are treated in the game turned the soul into a demon. he ends up starting some sort of revolt or something but i dont really know what the deal is with that.

the overall sense im getting is that Anders wants to change the way his people live in the world so he's willing to sacrifice himself to make that change happen. however, it's possible his thinking is a little warped because of the demon consuming him. ive heard little to nothing about Fenris and all the videos i look up are him being an ass.

i think the reason why there's a war going on between my friend/other person is because these two characters apparently hate each other in the game. i dont know why Fenris doesn't like Anders but I think the reason Anders doesn't like Fenris is because Anders is trying to save the mages and feels like Fenris should understand where he's coming from since Fenris was once part of an oppressed group but instead Fenris still chooses to not like Anders.

....

this is starting to sound weird...so yeah, if anyone wants to help me get to the bottom of this, that would be cool :3. and feel free to talk about other video games that may or may not be haunted =D.

Wow I didn't even see this thread. It wasn't even marked as new. You know what's weird though? I came on here specifically wondering if we had a video game thread lol.

So this is the game you were ranting about on your journal? I don't know anything about the game, I never even heard of it. If the games really bugging you, you could always play a little of it and see if you like it.

Summary's never really do games or anything too much justice. So I would play it for your own experience of everything.

Anyway I actually came on here, to make a game thread lol about the Wii. You have one right LS? I was wondering if you had Smash Brawl? If you don't, we should totally exchange our Wii codes still, just so we can connect with other online games, if they ever come out.

Also if you don't have Brawl, you should get it or at least try it. It's a pretty fun game. I tried online though and against randoms it sucks. It lags so much that a 2 minute battle takes 5 minutes to finish. When you play with people you've exchanged codes with though, it runs so much smoother.

yeah it was the game i was ranting about. and i cant play the game because i dont have the system for it. it's for the ps3. before i ranted about it though, i did watch cutscenes of the game. i really just wanted to know about the story rather than the gameplay.

actually, i was going to rant about the dragon age 2 saga a little bit more in the rant thread. because, here's the thing: the other person got mad at me and said i shouldn't have an opinion because i didn't play the game. however, there have been countless games that she has never played but she has an opinion of the characters and the plot. The Kingdom Hearts series and the Final Fantasy series are just some. And, let's not forget she has never read a Harry Potter book yet she has clear opinions on the story, characters, and pairings. what makes me mad is she is just using the fact i didnt play the game (which she can't use as an excuse anymore because i watched the ENTIRE game) as an excuse to whine when really she's just pissed because i dont have the same opinion as her. and, im almost positive she knows this, otherwise she would have said to my face i didn't have the right to an opinion instead of saying it behind my back and whining to other people.

that's why i made that new journal entry about the 'STFU' stuff. because if she has something to say that's mean, she should say it to my face.

ANYWAY lol

I have a Wii but I don't have Brawl. I wanted to play it actually but I've never gotten around to getting it. and, coincidentally, i came on to talk about the Wii too! lol im doing a contest entry for epic mickey...you have to come up with a storyline set in the world of Epic Mickey....runner ups get Oswald plushies! I want one because Oswald is adorable and i can't find his plushies in the Disney Store.

lol I see...still do you want to use her example? I think anything deserves a try before having a complete opinion...except Twilight. Kidding lol...maybe.

You should at least rent Brawl, it can be addicting.

My opinion on the matter of opinions (lol XD) is it's okay (and, the way media works nowadays almost inevitable) to have some sort of opinion going into whatever it is you're going to be reading/playing/watching/whatever. or, you're going to have some expectations going into it. then, once you get into it, you're opinion/expectations can change.

i'll admit, when i like something and someone says the overall thing sucks but they haven't seen the movie/whatever, i do get annoyed. but im not going to go behind their back, say mean things, and completely disregard their opinion. because im sure i've done the same thing at one point or another...actually, i know i have lol XD. i dont mind though when someone does research on the whatever and has an opinion of it. or, if they tried to get into it but then stopped.

i also dont mind when people like different characters. i actually prefer to have different opinions because then you can discuss/debate about it. actually, that's one of the things that I really liked about the concept of this game. because characters act COMPLETELY differently depending on what you do/say. even if it's the smallest difference. for instance, Ander's betrayal sounds kind of stupid if you're just friends with him. but if you're romancing with him, his betrayal is so much more dramatic and his responses are different. so the thing i find interesting about this game is, you know that something you did altered the character and it's easier to figure out at what point in the game the character changed and why they changed. it makes analyzing characters SO much fun. and i love analyzing characters as we all know XD.

which is why i said in the journal entry i liked both Fenris and Anders and why i didn't get that there was controversy with them in terms of the fans. because you go into the game knowing a character is going to act differently based on what YOU do. so, a character can be an ass in one situation during one playthrough and then not be an ass in same situation during a second playthrough. so i think it's unfair to call any character a definite ass, psycho, whatever because they change based on your decisions. so if they're an ass, it's your fault =p.

my renting store closed. i can't rent anymore =/. unless i get netflix or something...

Well judging by your post length, I think you should try the game lol. You seem a a bit passionate about something you've never tried.

Anyway this is my Wii and Brawl friend codes, if you want them.

Wii: 4481 0184 4778
Brawl: 0088 9060 1048

I think it has my Wii name as The Duke or Duke, which is from another Avatar site I'm from. We were supposed to have some big Wii Brawl online party, but it never happened.

I can't play the game, I don't have the system for it. It's only for ps3 and xbox. and the pc but I don't like playing pc games.

and even though i think it's an interesting concept (the character analysis thing) i still wouldn't get the game. the writing isn't that great and in order to actually analyze the characters the way i described above, you'd need to know EVERY combination of options and the results that follow....so it's more of something to look into in written form rather than playing the game. otherwise, you'd never finish the game.

it's also a quest based game and i dislike going on quests. i like having a main storyline and then going on quests as an option; not where the entire game is just quest after quest. i have a short attention span with video games, quests bore me lol XD i was getting bored just watching the cutscenes. stuff doesn't really start to kick in until the third act of the game.

so these codes...what do i do with them? do i have to go in a certain part of the Wii and plug the code in? ive never done this before so I have no idea what's going on. i kind of missed out on the online gaming lol XD

Go to the Wii menu channel and click on the calendar link. The part where it keeps a record of what you play and for how long every day. There should be a few different links to go into from there. There is one, which is an address book.

Your own code should be listed and you can input anyone's code from there. This is only for the Wii system though. Say like if we wanted to exchange game data or send some stupid Wii message to each other. Well it also helps with connecting the games to.

Wii: 4481 0184 4778 4665
Whoops, I forgot to add a line. This is the right code for the Wii system.

They actually have a long list of online games, but only a few are probably worthwhile.

^ Oh that's convenient :D.

The contest is about Epic Mickey. You have to write an essay about an adventure that would take place in the Wasteland (where the game takes place). So, from my understanding, you basically have to come up with a sequel sort of to the game.

The idea I have so far is where Mickey isn't satisfied with the fact his brother is stuck in the Wasteland along with all the other forgotten characters. So he gets the idea to ask a character that lives in his world to make an artificial heart for the people of the Wasteland so they can escape it (in order to leave the Wasteland, you need a heart). So Mickey brings the artificial heart to Oswald but Oswald's offended and he throws the heart away. The villain gets a hold of it and starts putting hearts in the citizens and controlling them. Mickey, Oswald, and co. have to try and stop the villain.

and in the end, Chernabog is somehow going to be the 'twist' haven't figured out how exactly, but he's going to come in as a total badass.

Sounds interesting, but couldn't the villain use the heart for himself to escape? Then he could wreak havoc in his world and theirs.

Yeah I'm being nitpicky, but it does sound interesting. How are you going about this? Do you have to just write a script up?

Also you said something about writing an RP story?

I'm thinking the villain's main plan is to use the citizens to create an army before going to Mickey's world. so, he wants to take over the wasteland first and then move on to Mickey's world. I'm actually thinking about having the last battle take place in Mickey's world.

You have to write an essay about it that's less than 700 words.

Maybe I'll write another RP story. it depends. I have to be in the mood to write those lol XD

Oh I must of misunderstood, I thought you said you were working on an RP story, never-mind! Why would Oswald throw away a chance to leave something called the wasteland? I know only like ten seconds of the actual story lol, so I know a bit about it, but not much.

Do the two of them have a bad relation? That would make more sense, but if they're on good or indifferent terms, then it wouldn't make as much sense. Sure it could make a story more interesting, but you don't always want to make a character OOC for the sake of a new/story.

Because Oswald doesn't want an artificial heart. He wants a real one. He'd rather not have a heart at all than to walk around knowing he has something fake inside him. I was thinking one of the themes would be that you can't just make a heart out of machinery. That's not what a heart is. And that's how they will end up defeating the villains.

Mickey and Oswald have a complicated relationship. Now, they're on somewhat good terms. I was thinking of them both playing the blame game as the journey goes on. Oswald thinks Mickey's idea of a heart is ridiculous yet Mickey points out that Oswald's the one who threw the heart away. In the first game, they didn't really treat one another like brothers. Now, I feel like they should have a little sibling time including arguments =p.

I should try to play that game more. My cousin gave it to me when she got rid of her Wii, but I couldn't get into it. Every place seemed repetitive with finding these little gremlin guys.

As for your idea, it sounds really nice. You should try to make the first few lines as captivating as you can. If you want feedback, just post your work here or somewhere in the forum.

Honestly, if you are not a huge Disney fan, I do not recommend playing it. It's the most annoying game I've ever played. I wanted to SHOOT the camera every time I turned the game on. It's terrible and so damn annoying. And all you do, for the most part, is go on quests. And the quests are repetitive....and the boss fights aren't that great.

It's a shame really because the storyline is good and I love the relationship between Mickey and Oswald. And I LOVE Gus the Gremlin. There's also hidden things all over the game like a replica of Walt's apartment he had hidden in Disneyland. But the gameplay gave me a headache every time I went to play it. Even my friend who's very good at playing video games played it once for five minutes and was like 'wtf is wrong with this game?'.

so yeah...the real treats of the game are playing it for the hidden Disney stuff. otherwise, i wouldn't play it. i definitely wouldn't play the game again, that's for sure.

You probably haven't gotten there yet. You have to get to the movie theater on Mean (or is it Main?) Street before you can watch them. And you can't watch all of them. You collect them for the movie theater guy and he gives you rewards in exchange. Two of the rewards you can get are full cartoons.
