Cosplay/Costumes
I realized that we've discussed this a lot, but haven't really had a thread for it.
Here we can discuss our projects we may be working on, costumes we've found interesting, and anything in between.
But it's also for like feedback...cause I'm trying to make another costume, but need some help lol.
I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy Tactics and always liked a particular unit. It's one that I think doesn't receive enough attention, but is the best all round unit since it can hold it's own.
I've also noticed while searching relentlessly that no one has made a costume of them.
I'm thinking about trying to work with flannel material with it...not entirely sure yet.
What I need to know first of all though is a pattern. I usually can work with something once I have a close enough pattern...but alas I'm having a blank.
Right now I just need a pattern for the blue shirt, nothing else as of yet. What do you think the shirt most closely resembles? Would you consider it a tunic?

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
Lee, you're asking the wrong person. I have no sense of clothes whatsoever. I usually just pick a costume that has easy identifiable pieces of clothing and just buy it.
if i had to make this costume, i would look for a blue turtle neck. but i know that's not what you're looking for.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
That wouldn't cut it though, at least not for me lol. You and I have different perfectionist ideals, I guess these projects are mine heh.
Someone else suggested that, but I think it would look a lot better handmade. A blue turtle neck would just look too tacky once I got around to doing the cape, hat...thing, and everything else.
That's basically what a tunic is. It's the red part of the clothes. The boy's sleeves/shirt are actually under it.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
i dont do those kinds of costumes because i know i lack the time/capability.
im not saying just get a turtle neck and you're done. im saying get the turtle neck and alter it. i think altering a turtle neck would be easier than altering a tunic. but, i dont really know to be honest.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
No I'm not going to buy a tunic. I just need to know what it looks similar to. Then I can go from there and search for different costume patterns and alter those.
You know, those schematics that they have for different costumes.

Right, I was just asking if you looked at the boy's shirt and the cartoon dude's shirt. Do they look similar in ways or no?

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
Cool, I just need to find a pattern close to that tunic now. I did find one, but it was only for sale on Ebay, curse my luck. If I was guaranteed a complete pattern packet, I might consider.
But something about Ebay just reeks of shadiness here and then. I don't want to cough up money for some pattern that's already been cut up and is missing pieces. (Patterns are etched on weak paper like tracing paper, and then you have to cut out all the pieces, then lay out the cloth on it, and cut/trace by the pattern) < Just a FYI if you didn't know.
Anyway since it's almost Halloween, this thread can also be about costumes we're thinking about making, using, or going as. Are you doing anything for Halloween by the way?

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
well i did make sure my possible costume was cleaned. most of my costume stuff got destroyed in the fire...i.e. burned.
but i still have my dorothy idea cause that was in my room. i dont really have any alternatives at the moment unless i buy something.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
yeah, they take them to a special cleaning place that deals with fires. it doesnt always work though so i have no idea what will come back good and what will still be bad. ill let you know though. out of all my clothes, im mostly worried about my indiana jones hat. because that was supposed to come in with the 'quick load' stuff (along with my Sorting Hat from HP) but they never came...

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
Well hope you have them come in and in good condition soon!
Also I got some good information on that one costume I asked you about. Just got to get out to a fabric store and test these materials out.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
Still haven't gotten out to get those materials, but things are starting to slow down just a tiny bit with school. (Well that's after my Thursday test) Maybe I'll be able to get out this weekend to find something or just do more researching/experimenting.

Oh when I say it'll die down a bit, I don't mean there won't be tests, exams, or projects to worry about.

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
well, you never know. :p
luckily, i think i have one group project this semester but it's where they're supposed to help with my film so if they ditch out on me, it's fine because i can just do it myself XD

Re: Cosplay/Costumes
Finally got around to searching for materials and patterns for my costume idea. I did that last weekend, but I've been so busy...I haven't had the time for anything really.
Anyway I just got some doubleknit blue material for the shirt, I might use it for the hat to, but I'm focusing on one piece at a time. The shirt will be first. Though the shirt and hat look like different colors in some drawings and then similar in others...I wish they would make up their minds!
I also bought some polyester blue thread and two patterns which I may use. Hopefully they are close enough to the design and I can use them to effectively work with the shirt.
