The criminal slowly backed away from Jet as his partner lay unconsciously on the ground. Quiver appeared behind him but he did not notice her. Just as he was about to turn around and make a run for it, Quiver punched him in the gut with her bow followed by a punch in the jaw with her fist. He fell to the ground, a moan escaping him.

Just as the two criminals were incapacitated, a black car with a flashing blue light on top pulled over just passed the alley. A young man stepped out of the car, Detective Hendrick's lieutenant that was seen often during the Thin Man incident.

At first, Jet was pleased at their teamwork and success. Another job was well done. However, they quickly changed, not because he thought differently of their performance, but because a peculiar vehicle came towards them. His thoughts were replaced with why and who was trying to meet them.

Jet recognized the person behind the wheel, when they exited. He had seen him several times when they were battling with that difficult job. He really didn't know what to do or say to this person. So instead, he just stood still and stared at them. Until they properly introduced themselves or he decided that the silence had gone on long enough.

Quiver had no idea what to make of this new arrival so she, like Jet, remained silent.

"I take it from here," the lieutenant stated as he looked upon the two unconscious robbers. He bent down to the one Quiver had knocked out, who was moaning and not entirely unconscious, and pulled out a set of handcuffs that were fastened to his belt.

With the criminal now cuffed and being forced to rise, the lieutenant made eye contact with the heroes once again.

"Detective Hendricks wanted me to let you know they found someone who is helping Tyler. They think they might be able to start bringing kids back by the end of next week."

"Well that's good I guess." Jet remarked, not entirely sure what to say. "Tell him to send us a postcard or something."

"Detective Hendricks is dead." The lieutenant's face was sombre as he stared at Jet.

OOC: im sorry I couldn't resist :p

"Why is the detective sending a messenger pigeon instead of telling us himself?" Quiver added. The lieutenant seemed surprised by the super heroes' tart remarks but he shook it off.

"Detective Hendricks was sent back to Chicago. Along with any ideas of cooperation between the police and superheros."

"Woah, I wasn't serious about that whole postcard thing." Jet blurted out, after the detective had bluntly stated what had happened. After all, he was half expecting to meet Tyler and Hendricks, but now it seemed they weren't going to see any of them.

"So where is Tyler?" Jet hesitated to ask. He figured the police would be giving them a hard time now, on account of their last statement. But it didn't hurt to ask either way.

The lieutenant walked the criminal to his car. Quiver followed. With the other man still unconscious next to Jet, she figured Jet would take care of him.

He shook his head as he led the criminal to the back of his car. He shut the door and shook his head.

"I don't know. He's been placed in a sort of witness protection program to prevent harassment."

"I guess that's about as much information as we can expect to get from you guys?" Jet rhetorically asked, as he was escorting the other criminal towards the police car. Since he didn't have handcuffs lying around, like the police, he resorted to tying their hands behind their back with an empty trashbag.

"Believe me, if I knew, I would tell you," he replied. The lieutenant took over for Jet once he was close enough and soon both criminals were in the back of the car.

Quiver wasn't sure if she could trust everything the lieutenant said. She guessed he was probably telling the truth when it came to knowing Tyler's whereabouts. However, she wasn't so sure he was being completely honest when he said he would provide whatever information he had. She sounded to her as though he was merely trying to stay cordial for the sake of his former superior.

"Thanks for the info," Quiver said. Her tone wasn't exactly the nicest it could be but in all honesty she was pretty much done with this conversation. The night was still young and she wasn't going to waste it.

Taking the hint that he was no longer wanted, the lieutenant opened the driver's side of the vehicle. He got in before shutting the door. With his window down, he said, "hopefully things will change" before driving away from the two super heroes.

Jet silently watched as the detective drove away. Not only was this little bit of information disappointing, they would probably take the credit for taking down these criminals as well. That wasn't a point worth becoming frustrated over or arguing about openly. They had bigger concerns, like the police going back to their disdain of them.

"Well it was short lived...what happens now?"

"I guess we just do what we've been doing," Quiver answered. She really didn't see any other option they had. "Maybe we'll eventually win the police's favor."

-

With the night still young, the heroes went about their way, uncertainty lingering. The police kept a wary eye as the night continued.

As the tension lingered, a kid of about twelve walked with his parents down the busiest street in the city. No one would necessary notice this particular kid in such a busy area. But he wore a hat that had come from a cart just down the street of a poor vendor. And on that hat was a symbol that belonged to a certain speedster in Little Springs.

So maybe, there was hope for change.

...Previously on Heroes of Little Spring... :P
A tabloid, which had been sullied, had ink and writing that was still legible. There was a portrait of Corporal Hunt before and after his arrest, and above was the title 'The Hunt is On'

Below was a very detailed writing, and a headline which read 'Losing and being striped of everything, this man has one last piece to give up, the truth.'

-

With vial in hand, Freeman beckoned his agents to bring their guest, Corporal Hunt. A man supposedly still in prison. Strapped in a straitjacket, they struggled to be free, but it was all a futile attempt.

"I'm not at fault here, you were simply disposable." Freeman remarked, as the vial was prepared into a needle.

"Wh-what are you doing?"

"What must be done." Freeman stated calmly, as he advanced towards Hunt with the needle in hand.

"Clearly someone didn't want him talking." Lunar Knight explained, as he gestured towards a small insect that he been infected with the contents of the vial. It had transformed a jagged, scaly, and rough carapace. Except almost all of its body had. "And so they did this to him."

-

"We need back up!" The police shouted through a radio, as the screams of late-night civilians shrieked. There were also gunshots, far off, that echoed. Suddenly a recognizable roar managed to sneak in on the call. "That thing is back! Repeat we need back up at the abandoned power plant!"

Suddenly the officer screamed loudly, before the message went dead with static. "The old electric plant? It might have something to do with the missing bank vault piece." Lunar Knight replied, as he heeded the message.

"It's not enough that they turn our kids into bullies and delinquents with their arrogant might makes right policy. Once again I tell it like it is. Am I right folks or am I right?" A slanderous talk host asked rhetorically, with a smile, as their audience cheered in agreement.

-

Without explanation and warning, the behemoth growled annoyingly. It winced as if in pain, before releasing and dropping Quiver quickly. A series of bursts of wind blew forth nearby the beast, each time it jerked and jolted, as if being painfully tormented.

Suddenly the behemoth dropped on its knees and then its stomach, landing its face coldly onto the concrete flooring. With a thunderous echo, it was down and unconscious. Given only a few moments to assess the confusing situation, a peculiar figure zipped atop the behemoth's back, before a series of whipping winds blew into their direction.

Standing triumphantly atop this downed beast was a familiar speedster. Yet there was something different, with the costume he wore. No longer was it yellow or hodgepodge in design. It seemed more like a uniform should be, more professional. Everything was black, with hints of yellow.

"All is going as planned..." Freeman smiled triumphantly from afar, as he watched the unwinding scene.

Quiver gazed at the sight before her. Her mouth hung open for a brief moment.

"Jet?"

It wasn't like he could necessarily hear her. But the fact that he was there after missing for so long seemed unreal even to her.

Once the speedster's windy appearance had ceased, smoke from the power plant wreckage began to resume it's ascent. The behemoth laid unconsciously, stomach and face first, with this familiar superhero standing on top of their backside. There were a few audible moans coming from the beast, and although they were out for the count, was still in pain.

The police officers slowly regained their composure, as they rose from the protection of toppled police vehicles and trashed power boxes. Some were still armed, despite the ordeal they had just faced. However, the grip on their weapon was limp at best, as they assessed the situation. They were shocked at what and how the engagement unfolded. Most importantly, they were surprised at who was nearby and had finished the job.

"Like my uncle always said," Jet remarked triumphantly, as he placed his arms on his hips. "The bigger they are, the harder they fall!" After he finished briefly basking in his victory and gloating, he addressed a certain someone. "Hey Quiver, I just took down a giant. How's it going?"

However, a reunion or speech of any kind would have to wait. As soon as he asked his question, a series of news reporters and cameramen mobbed him from every angle. They stormed the scene so fast that the police didn't even have a time to put up a perimeter. In fact, some even rushed between his and Quiver's line, and managed to cut their sight off of one another as they passed by.

The flash of lights and mechanical clicks followed in a synchronized chaos, as many began to take pictures. Others preferred to go live, as they obnoxiously shoved their microphone nearby the missing superhero, while their cameraman zoomed in from every angle. Their were so many questions and words thrown, that often it was hard to even distinguish what one person was saying from the other.

"Jet where were you? What happened to you? Is that a new superhero costume?" Were only a few of the questions that were lumped together in a chaotic mess. "Do you still like ice cream soda?"

Quiver didn't have time to respond as the media poured in, completely surrounding them. Some tried to push their way past Quiver in order to get a better shot of Jet but she wouldn't allow them as she held her arms firmly in front of them.

It wasn't like she knew what to say to Jet anyway. Not yet anyway. But seeing the media try to flood their way between them gave her a pretty good idea of what to do next.

"No further questions," Quiver said firmly as she grabbed Jet out of the cameras' lines of sight and began to pull him away from the annoying reporters.

Jet was bombarded by so many questions at once, that he didn't even know what to do. He just stood atop the beast, completely confused at this sudden rush of the press. The constant flashing of cameras and some of the indecipherable voices coming from the back of the group didn't help matters. Nor did the obnoxious reporters shoving microphones and video-cameras almost straight into his face.

However, he did still manage to hear some of the questions. "Well...uh...um..." He muttered, as one question after the other was piled. Suddenly he heard one that he could answer almost immediately, without a lot of thought. He smiled and brought his hand up, "As a matter of fact, I do still like ice cream soda. Whether it's just ice cream or soda. They're both very delicious."

However, before any more questions could be asked or answered, Quiver interrupted this gathering of the press. Even though she attempted to lead Jet somewhere else, it didn't help matters that Jet was still confused by all these sudden interactions.

Which meant the media was still able to film and photograph the both, as they began to leave the scene. Especially since Jet wasn't as adamant about leaving the press and therefor their walk was probably not as fast as Quiver would be hoping.

"Oh, um ok..." Jet managed to mumble. "Hey Quiver. How is it going?"

Seeing that the press was not letting up even with Quiver and Jet leaving, Quiver glared towards Jet after his comment.

"Get us out of here," she hissed lowly so the press wouldn't hear.

It wasn't a request, it was a demand. Quiver wasn't going to talk to Jet or say what she needed to say in front of the press. This was a private matter.

She looked to see if she could find the Caped Crusader. Although she couldn't find him, she had a feeling he was somewhere in the shadows. But it couldn't be helped: this was between her and Jet.

Having just arrived at the scene moments before, Jet was blindsided by everyone fighting for his attention. Whether it was the constant barrage of questions by the media, with their obnoxious flash photography, or that of his partner angrily demanding actions, he was confused to say the least.

However, he figured he would rather deal with a mob of agitated reporters later then that of her catty attitude. "Right..." He wasn't necessarily game for this type of action, but he didn't want to give her or anyone else any more reasons to complain.

Quickly he hoisted her with both arms and sped off into the distance. With their two leads for good ratings gone, literally in a flash, the media bemoaned their misfortune. Having given them enough of a speeding distance, Jet lessened his speed to that of a brisk walk, before they stopped at some secluded forest.

"...well we're here." He remarked, before releasing Quiver on her feet.

Quiver immediately let her feet land on the floor as Jet brought them both in a secluded forest.

"Where the hell have you been?!" She was tempted to punch him but knew it was useless: he would just dodge it and would therefore be a waste of energy.

Jet was startled by Quiver's outburst, to say the least. It was probably expected, but he still wasn't prepared for it as much as he thought he would be. Or at least he thought it would had went a lot smoother...or something.

"Listen!" He began with a loud note, so as to get through any more of her outbursts, while using his hands to gesture her to calm down. "I know you're probably mad and wondering why I've been gone for so long..."

He trailed off at the end of his sentence, as if he was trying to find the right way to word his next statement. There was a short pause, as he had difficulty with this, but then came to a conclusion. "During our fight with the Thin Man...do you remember what I told Tyler?"

Of course he didn't expect her to recall that incident. It had been half a year, if that. "You asked me, to tell him, if there was anything that I was afraid of."

Quiver stopped upon seeing Jet's expression. She listened.

"Mad and wondering is putting it lightly but yes," Quiver interjected. She wasn't as angry as she had been before. At least, she didn't appear to be. Her tone was calm.

Quiver tried to remember back to that incident but it was a long time ago. And she'd be lying if she told herself she had been fully paying attention at the time. In part because she did not think she was meant to hear a more personal conversation. But eventually, as she thought, she remembered bits and pieces.

"So what happened, exactly? How did you get out?" She felt as though she remembered enough where she didn't have to ask this question. But she asked it anyway for a number of reasons. She felt guilty for her main reasoning and that was simply due to a matter of trust. There were still things that had never felt right with that entire scenario and for all she knew, Jet might not have been Jet.

For the most part, Jet ignored Quiver's retorts and overall attitude. Mainly because he didn't want to start an argument and in the end forget to mention what he wanted to. So instead he allowed whatever comments that came from her to flow over him, stated what he needed to, and then gave her enough time to calm down and assess what had just been said.

"Get out?" Jet questioned in a disgruntled manner. "Who said I got out?" He didn't know whether his choice of words or the tone he used would cause Quiver to be irritated again. It wasn't as if his tone was directed to her. Either way, he decided it was best to clarify things soon.

"No, I didn't escape, if that's what you're thinking. I just got lucky. What was probably a year to you was more like a blink of the eye...in a sense." He however trailed off with his last statement.

"...It happened a long time ago, and one of the reasons I don't like using my speed to its fullest potential."

"Jet," Quiver said, her voice calmer now. "I'm glad you're back but..."

She really didn't know how to say it. She felt guilty for having to think this way. But she didn't want to make the same mistake twice.

"How do I know you're really you?"

At first, Jet was offended by Quiver's question. He made no effort, subtle or otherwise, to hide his reaction. However, he realized what she had asked was understandable, given what had happened. Even if it had occurred half a year ago, it seemed just like yesterday to him. Or maybe even a few hours was a better analogy.

"I don't know...What do you want me to do? Save you from another twenty foot monster?" He asked, still a little bothered by her questioning. "You're just going to have to trust me..."

OOC: For the most part, a few phases of this is just going to be catching up or whatever. So if you want to create a small subplot to go along with this go ahead.

"Okay..." Quiver said. She still felt guilty for even having to bring it up and especially given Jet's expression. "But for the love of god, can we please come up with a code word or something so I don't accidentally almost kill you? And vice versa?"

She hoped her comment would lighten the mood, if only a little.
