Civil War Pictures
Well I don't know if any of you still use deviantart, but I uploaded some of my better Civil War reenactment pictures.
Figured I would share them with you all if you haven't seen them.

Re: Civil War Pictures
The picture with the burning building? I took that at Gettysburg 2008. It was a pretty neat event with over 20,000 reenactors. Of course you can give or take from that estimate.
Sure and if you have any pictures you would like to show here, by all means do so!
The ones I always like looking over again are the fourth picture and the three skinny pictures of the horses converging around the square of men.
The fourth picture was taken at Gettysburg 2008, after Picketts Charge was over. I just wanted to capture how many people were actually there, and even that photo doesn't do it a whole lot of justice. I still enjoy the picture though.
The others are a series of photos taken at 1st Manassas 2006. It was the Battalion square that I took part of. It was neat seeing about 300 cavalrymen charge into our line. I got to be lucky since I was in the front.
In a battalion square there's a back, a front, and two sides, so it forms a lined square formation. It's perfect for protecting yourself from all sides even against face moving forces. They actually used that during the real battle.
It was really cool to reenact that part. It took a lot of practice and training, even off field and at different events so we could make sure the square was in perfect order when we finally did it. Needless to say we pulled it off both times.

The building is the Bliss Farm burning. If you Google that you can find the youtube link of it. A women and two children died inside it.

Re: Civil War Pictures
If they still had the 2008 145th Gettysburg clip on youtube, I would shown it here. Unfortunately the author removed it...it literally showed how intense and how many people were there. Most of the others don't even come close, I really don't know why he got rid of it.
It's the same guy who filmed this clip and I'm sure I've showed it here many of times. It was one of my favorite reenactments.

He has one for the 2007 event, but that wasn't as big as the 2008...it's sad I don't know why he had to rip it. Probably some tight ass whiner about the music or something. It's not like people are actually making a profit off of the youtube videos so they should just chill out.

i wouldnt be surprised if the company was indirectly owned by Viacom. they take everything down.

Re: Civil War Pictures
I don't know, it was just reenactment footage...how could they copyright that stuff? It's a collaborated play fit with over 20,000 participants, if anything we all get a share in that then. Even if it was Viacom, I highly doubt there were present at any time at that event.

Re: Civil War Pictures
^ if the music is copyrighted then that could give them a reason to take it down. either that, or i would say people who professionally filmed the reenactments took it down. i saw a lot of professional equipment when i went.

Re: Civil War Pictures
ScottlandThunder did the filming. He's both a reenactor and films them. I know that since he's pretty well known around the reenacting committee, at least here in the east he is. He did an excellent job with the 145th 1st Manassas footage, unfortunately he did a great job with the 145th Gettysburg but it's gone.
As long as people give credit where it is needed there is no need to take something down. They're just abusing their powers now.

^ yeah they are. i mean, i can understand if the person is making a profit like selling the videos they make or whatever. but when its just a silly video on youtube, i really dont get what the big deal is.

Re: Civil War Pictures
Would had more pictures to submit here, but unfortunately one of the events got rained out...well it was more that it was pouring down all day and I decided not to go and get drenched. I'm sure some did, but after doing that once or a few times with my own company, I'd rather not do it with some stranger company.
Oh well there's always the next reenactment which is before school. Hopefully it doesn't rain on that one. If it does, I'll probably go for a day at the most.

Re: Civil War Pictures
lol yeah neither would I. I spent the whole week one time at a reenactment where it did nothing but rain. By the time we had a battle there was only about three confederates against 50 Union...and we had to lose. How lame is that?

Re: Civil War Pictures
Well it was an early morning tactical, so it was for reenactors only. It was still stupid though. For certain situations like this, things need to be changed up a little.
After the battle a bunch of the event organizers asked most of us if we wanted to portray the Confederates. Some of us figured why not, even though we really didn't feel like it. Or at least we did until they told us to take off our uniforms and go in just underlining. I mentally told them to shove it up their one way digestive track.
Not only is that degrading, but it was raining. I would definitely get sick by doing that. They were just a bunch of asswiping Confederate sympathizers who wanted to treat us Union reenactors wrongly, just because of who we were portraying. We showed them though as we all left.

Re: Civil War Pictures
lol LS uniforms are very costly, they would never hand those out. They're made of pure wool, which is one of the more expensive materials. One yard can cost up to $30, so you can just imagine what a uniform made of it would cost.
That would be even more silly handing those out. Someone would just run away with freebies like that.

Re: Civil War Pictures
We don't go and buy cheap stuff like that. Reenactments are all about authenticy, since we're reenacting history we try to keep it as close to possible as it was back then.

Re: Civil War Pictures
Although there are the people who come who are only in jeans as wool pants and black sneakers for brogans. It kind of defeats the purpose of what a reenactment is about. Oh and don't even get me started about this one guy who brought along his blender to make margaritas.
